Toshiba and Best Buy go pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month
Toshiba launches pink laptop; proceeds will support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation

Markham, ON (October 8, 2008) – The Information Systems Group of Toshiba of Canada (Toshiba) and Best Buy are joining forces to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation with the launch of Toshiba’s stylish pink Portégé M800 laptop. Until the end of the year, $40 from the sale of each unit, available exclusively at Best Buy, will be contributed to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to help support relevant and innovative breast cancer research, and education and awareness programs.

It is estimated that 22,400 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year alone. Women who live to the age of 90 have a one in nine chance of developing breast cancer and as the risk of developing breast cancer increases with age, awareness and early detection are critical. With early detection, treatments can be more effective and lives can be saved; the current 5 year survival rate is 87% and since 1999, the incidence of breast cancer in Canada has stabilized.

“Toshiba is pleased to team up with Best Buy in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and its program with our new pink laptop,” said Sherry Lyons Director of Communications for Toshiba of Canada. “Breast cancer affects many Canadians and their families and we hope that through our partnership we can increase awareness and stress the importance of early detection.”

“Advances in treatment and after-care support have improved the quality of life for women who are faced with breast cancer, and we are honored to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and their investment in these areas,” said Loveena Chera, Director of Marketing for Best Buy. “We are happy to partner with Toshiba on this initiative that supports a cause that touches the lives of many of our employees and customers.”

“The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is very proud to welcome Toshiba with its retail partner Best Buy to our team of valued corporate partners,” said Jane Knox, Associate Director of National Corporate Programs for the Foundation’s Central Office. “Thanks to programs like theirs, the Foundation is able to continue to invest in innovative research that continues to positively impact the lives of Canadians living with breast cancer.”

The Portégé M800 laptop in sakura pink looks great and packs the features and performance that customers have come to expect from Toshiba. It features a 13.3-inch LCD screen, weighs only 4.6 lbs and is powered by the Pentium Dual-Core T3200 processor 2.0 GHz. It comes with 2 GB DDR2, 250 GB of Hard Disk Drive space, an Intel GMA 4500M graphics card, a DVD SuperMulti Double Layer drive, a bilingual keyboard, Bluetooth and wireless capabilities as well as an integrated 1.3MP web camera.

Those eager to help support this initiative and secure this limited edition laptop can pre-order in-store or online at BestBuy.ca/pinkToshiba starting October 10th. The laptop will be prominently displayed in Best Buy stores across Canada once available the week of October 19th, and store staff are being encouraged to support the effort through a pink themed day on the following weekend.

The Portégé M800 pink laptop will be available at Best Buy stores until December 2008, or while quantities last, for a promotional price of $799.
