Toshiba marks more than twenty years in the Tablet PC market
with the launch of two Portégé M780 systems
Convertible Tablet/notebook computers offer practicality of a notebook
with touch screen options and flexibility of a Tablet
Markham, ON (March 16, 2010) - Toshiba's Information Systems Group, a division of Toshiba of Canada Ltd., announced today two Portégé M780 Tablet notebook computers, including one with a 128GB solid state drive. Both models offer high performance and green mobile computing, greater durability and security along with flexibility to accommodate various work environments.

The Portégé M780 offers versatile interaction with the notebook whether it’s from the touch of the fingertips, digital pen or keyboard. The 12.1-inch swivel screen has LED antiglare back lighting and wide angle viewing for indoor and outdoor environments that gives architects, surveyors, healthcare practitioners, engineers and teachers the flexibility they need to be productive.
Both Portégé M780 notebook computers are powered by the latest Intel Core i5-520M processor – 2.40GHz/2.93GHz- Intel’s Active Management Technology that makes it possible to remotely configure, diagnose, isolate and repair PCs. They also feature Windows® 7 Professional and take advantage of the built-in touch capabilities of the operating system, making everyday interactions simple and intuitive. Users can easily scroll through Web pages and documents with the touch of a finger.
The Portégé M780 series offers 4GB DDR3, modem, LAN, Intel® 802.11agn Wireless , AMT 6.0, Bluetooth, Webcam, Digitizer/Touchpad Panel and TPM. They also come equipped with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology and Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology that allows for more efficient use of the processor’s resources. As a result, users can run several applications simultaneously and still maintain system responsiveness. Featuring Intel® Virtualization Technology, the Portégé M780 notebooks are able to consolidate multiple IT environments for a single server or workstation for improved efficiency. This reduces the risk of down time and lowers the costs that would otherwise be required for utilization of the notebook. The Portégé M780 with the 320GB Hard Disk Drive retails for $2349.
The Portégé M780 is also available with a 128GB solid state drive for improved durability that withstands temperatures, vibrations and shocks. The solid state drive offers faster boot time, quicker data access and increased battery life due to 33 per cent lower energy consumption. This model retails for $2549.
Toshiba’s exclusive EasyGuard provides carefree mobile computing with features including:

- Spill resistant keyboard for up to 100 mL
- Hard Disk Drive protection
- Shock protection design for up to a 100 cm drop
- Anti-theft protection timer
Both Portégé M780 notebooks also come with a three year limited international warranty.
Eco-conscious Design
Continuing Toshiba's commitment to help consumers and businesses reduce their carbon footprint, both Portégé M780 models meet the rigorous requirements of the EnergyStar® 5.0 standard and are EPEAT Gold certified. They are also RoHS compatible, effectively reducing the environmental impact by restricting the use of lead, mercury, cadmium and certain other hazardous substances. The Portégé M780 notebook computers have reduced environmental impact throughout the product lifecycle. The units are made with reduced compound materials and minimal natural resources. Weight and volume of packaging is reduced at the distribution stage, while lower power consumption at the usage stage saves energy. At the end of life stage, the notebooks are easily dissembled for product recycling.
