It’s been well over a year since I’ve been to an MLG event or competed in a gaming tournament – and boy do I miss it! A lot of you may already know and surprisingly a lot of you may not – I have retired from competitive gaming. I’ve been part of the Major League Gaming Pro Circuit since 2004, starting off with Halo CE, and ending it with Halo 3. It has been a solid 6 years and I had a blast! I’ve made a lot of friends, travelled to a lot of places around the world – things I would have never done if it weren’t for professional gaming! I’ve taken a step back from professional gaming and now focussing on family life while working with Toshiba, my sponsor during the height of my pro Halo days on the Amp Pro Team. As far as gaming goes – I play for fun. Although I always play to win; I can never get rid of that competitive drive in me. Sometimes I wonder if I should make a return to competitive gaming. I do plan on attending MLG Orlando but I haven’t decided if I will attend as a competitor, coach or just a fan. Only time will tell.

Toshiba Canada is sponsoring myself and a few other gamers to bring the community Canadian gaming and technology specific content. I’ll be covering a lot of games which I’ve been playing recreationally and at the same time bringing you guys what you want to see. I’d love to take this opportunity to pass the torch so to say – share my knowledge which I’ve acquired in my competitive days and pass it along. My games of choice are First Person Shooters, so my focus will mainly be on these types of games. I’ll be covering most of the Halo series in preparation for the re-release of Halo 1 Anniversary Edition and Halo 4! Not to let my COD supporters down, I’ll be doing a LOT of Call of Duty, I fell in love with the game (Modern Warfare 2) and I want to bring you guy’s awesome content ranging from a video series on expert tips and strategies. I’ll even be doing a throwback to CoD4 – a game which I’ve never played before; see how I stack up and to see how my approach to gaming in First Person Shooters are transferable to games that I`ve never played before. I also plan on playing Star Craft II on my Toshiba Quosmio, which will be an entirely new experience for me and I can`t wait to make a fool out of myself. It`s all in good fun and I`m really excited about learning a completely new game, although I`m worried I may suck at it.

In addition to creating content – I’ll also be testing out brand new state of the art equipment that Toshiba has rolling out this year I can`t tell you exactly what it is, it`s a secret – but stay tuned. The next few months I’ll be pretty busy, so I`m glad that I`m doing something I love. I`ll need all of your support, comments, suggestions, views, follows, subscribes – anything and everything. Thanks again for your continued support!

Nelson

I am a competitive gamer who has since moved from competitive play to organizing tournaments. I was invited to play in CAL-M for Counter-Strike: Source, but school had to take precedent. I attended many LANs with teammates and won a few tournaments. Once in University, I got involved with an organization called Frag For Cancer. We now organize many tournaments live and online for a range of titles from shooters, to strategy games, to casual games. These tournaments are held to raise money and awareness for Cancer research. I have also started my own tech oriented company which offers a range of services, including setting up LAN parties.

I play an extremely wide variety of games. My biggest area would be FPS, but I have always been into Strategy games, and have been moving back into them lately. I also play a lot of “SIM” games, as well as racing and RPGs. I will even play the odd fighting game every now and then.
In terms of tech, I have since a young age built my own desktop computer for gaming. I own all three current-gen consoles, have a Toshiba gaming laptop, and even a tablet. If it is gaming and tech related, I am interested.

There are a few things I will be covering in my blog leading up to Toronto’s Fan Expo and beyond. Topics include un-boxing new Toshiba gear including the amazing line of gaming laptops and 3D TVs. Setting up and optimizing your equipment for gaming. How to tune and tweak your Toshiba laptop for gaming, and otherwise handy tips and tricks related to gaming and tech. I look forward to bringing you the entire scoop on the latest and greatest from Toshiba!

Besides playing Halo competitively I really enjoy playing sports games such as NFL Blitz, Tennis, Soccer,Basketball,Hockey,UFC. I just wish that there was a competitive league for sports games so I can add to my “resume”, you know- besides whooping on friends.

Before becoming heavily involved in the boxing and Mixed Martial Arts scene in Toronto, I was born in Jamaica and arrived in Canada when I was five years old in 1995. As a child I got picked on quite a bit in school. However, being the person that I am, I never backed down. I stood up for myself even if that meant losing a fight and being hurt. I’m sure we have all felt some form of bullying while growing up and at times we’ve been individually unable to conquer these moments.

I’ve always been one that is willing to help people out any way I could. Part of the reason I think is the fact I grew up watching and playing the entire Street Fighter series, Mortal Kombat, Power Rangers, Dragon Ball Z and more. One thing you can find with the Street Fighter series and the other fighting anime games out there are the amazing characters. They all have the will of fire which means they will never give up. They will not stop until the main goal is accomplished. I remember feeling empowered when I first played my first fighting game. I think this will power is essentially in all of us, we just need help to unlock it.

Which brings me to my main goal in life: to become the world champion in both my weight class; Bantam weight & also the Feather weight division in MMA and Boxing. I began training when I was 14 but I started fighting at a very young age to defend myself. My goal is to get stronger each week as I prepare for not only real life fights in Fall 2011, but I intend on competing at an actual Street Fighter competition in September. I’ll be writing about my progress on preparing against Canada’s best Street Fighter competitors.

My own endeavours aside, I want to become a positive role model for the next generation of youth, especially those of you out there who are having a tough time in school. With the help of my new sponsor, Toshiba Canada, I want to eventually open training gyms around the world, specifically within third world countries and complete with a video game lounge. After all you can’t train all the time!
