Toshiba business-class laptops take power and security to the next level New Portégé and Tecra laptops feature new Security, Patch and Power Management technologies

Markham, ON (June 26, 2012) - Toshiba of Canada Limited today introduced enhanced business laptops with third generation Intel® Core™ processors and new technology developed with IBM® that enables IT professionals to better control security and power management across enterprise deployments. The new models include the Portégé R930 ultraportable laptop, as well as upgrades to the Tecra® line of laptops.

“Today’s IT professionals must be more agile and ingenious than ever, deploying smart, reliable and secure enterprise-level technology to power an increasingly mobile workforce,” Ken Lam, Product Manager at Toshiba of Canada. “By teaming with Tivoli® team of renowned technology company IBM®, we have created more secure and energy efficient laptops that take advantage of the latest processing technology from Intel.”

What’s new?

Toshiba Smart Client Manager

Toshiba’s new business laptops come standard equipped with Toshiba Smart Client Manager Powered by Tivoli®, which helps IT professionals reduce expense and complexity, and more easily manage network laptops. Toshiba Power Management grants IT the ability to distribute and optimize power management settings down to each deployed PC, including settings for shifting peak power consumption hours. The ability to monitor consumption and adjust accordingly results in better energy efficiency gains. Toshiba Patch Management provides a streamlined solution for patch compliance that reduces business risks and complexity. From a single management console, a system administrator can easily provide up-to-date patch visibility, control the deployment of patches and resolve problems from previously applied patches. And finally, Toshiba Security allows system administrators to control access by preventing a PC from starting up, logging on and being unlocked unless the PC is authenticated by the management server. Enhanced security features also allow administrators to restrict access to a number of external and network devices.

Improved Security with Self Encrypted Hard Drive technology and Solid State Drives

Today’s business users demand more security features without compromising on style and mobility. Toshiba of Canada is proud to announce that select Tecra and Portégé laptops will now feature Self Encrypted Hard Drive technology (SEDs) or Solid State Drives (SSDs). Toshiba’s self-encrypting drive is ideal for security sensitive applications. Designed to the Opal SSC specification from the Trusted Computing Group (TCG), the new Toshiba SED enables secure and quick deployment of encryption on business laptops to protect confidential information. Toshiba laptops with SED technology benefit from the broad industry support available for industry-standard TCG security features and capabilities. In addition, Toshiba offers SED models with unique wipe technology features, allowing OEMs and security solutions designers to provide additional safeguards for protected data.

For business users on the go, Toshiba’s SSD technology is free of moving parts and designed to last longer than a conventional spinning hard drive. Tougher, quieter and quickerthan a traditional rotating hard drive, the new SSDs available in Toshiba Tecra and Portégé laptops provide safe and reliable access to your crucial business files. These drives also weighs less and use less power, allowing for a longer battery life, which helps keep users more mobile than ever.
